In preparation for their upcoming American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Accreditation recertification, Simon sent Ryan Kane (QA/QC Manager) and Garrett Wilkerson (QA/QC Supervisor) from the Central Region to Cincinnati, OH for additional training regarding embankment and base testing.
From January 17-21, they learned first-hand how to prepare a soil specimen, perform a 5-point standard proctor, and watched demonstrations on key procedures necessary for their continuous improvement program. Both are planning on getting certified by Colorado Department of Transportation in Western Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction Embankment and Base and In-Place Density, which is required to maintain their accreditation in soils testing.
Adam Wahl (QA/QC Technician 1) and Dustin Melroy (QA/QC Technician 1) from the East Region of Simon also attended to gain exposure regarding hot mix asphalt mixture test procedures and methods related to mixture rice and bulk densities, gyratory compaction, mixture quartering, aggregate unit weight, and coarse and fine aggregate bulk specific gravity.
The nuclear gauge was provided by David Scruggs (Director of QA/QC Director, Barrett Industries), since Colas Solutions does not own one.
Colas Solutions offers both hands-on and classroom training at the Newtown, OH laboratory facility to all employees within the Colas USA Family of Companies.
